In a bid to enhance safety, traffic wardens across Punjab have been directed to wear helmets while on duty at intersections and road junctions.
According to the traffic police spokesperson, the new directive has been issued to ensure the protection of wardens who stand in the middle of busy roads regulating traffic.
Chief Traffic Officer Athar Waheed has instructed all wardens to comply with the order, making helmet use mandatory regardless of weather conditions.
The decision follows multiple incidents of wardens sustaining injuries in road accidents. Meanwhile, authorities continue their crackdown on vehicles with illegal, fancy, and non-standard number plates.
This month alone, over 52,000 fines have been issued for the use of unauthorized number plates, including penalties for more than 35,000 motorcyclists. Additionally, over 4,300 cars were fined for displaying illegal or fancy number plates.
