The Punjab government has decided, for the first time in the country’s history, to introduce the Rahmat Card for widows and orphans.
A meeting was held under the chairpersonship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, during which the Rahmat Card for widows and orphaned children was approved.
In the briefing, the Chief Minister was informed that eligible families would receive direct financial assistance of up to one lakh rupees.
Through the Rahmat Card, widows will receive one lakh rupees and orphaned children will receive 25,000 rupees each. In its first phase, the Rahmat Card will serve as a financial lifeline for over 50,000 destitute households.
It was further shared in the briefing that the Rahmat Card project will be launched immediately after Eid. Applications for the Rahmat Card can be made through a mobile app, web portal, call center, or Zakat office call center.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that widows in Punjab will no longer be in need, as it is the responsibility of the state. She emphasized that widows will receive their rightful entitlements with dignity, not charity.
She added that every individual has a right to Punjab’s resources, and all available resources will be utilized to ensure that the entitled benefits reach those who deserve them.
