Punjab govt sets up Centralized Database System in health sector  

LAHORE: The Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department of Punjab (P&SHDP) has established  a Centralized Database System (CDS) to detect the scale of diseases to prevent epidemics.
Sources said following the standard operating procedures of the World Health Organization (WHO) would facilitate the health department to inform health emergency about possible outbreak of epidemics before time.
Sources further said the Centralized Database System connecting Punjab’s all state-run hospitals. Government officials told that the system will help collect and update data of patients in different public sector hospitals of various districts.
It further stated the system has been improved and upgraded to the level that the availability and quality of data would provide an early warning system.Due to the system the concerned departments would have sufficient time to control the diseases including dengue, typhoid and influenza.
Earlier, several dashboards were functioning for the same purpose without integrated mechanism, creating problems for the health experts to know the exact impact of the disease before reaching the epidemic proportion.
The need for the application of centralised database in Pakistan, using digital technologies to improve public services delivery and government-citizen engagements, is felt more than ever.
