The Punjab government has expanded the scope of its “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” (My Roof, My Home) programme, announcing interest-free loans ranging from PKR 500,000 to PKR 1 million for the construction, repair and roofing of homes for low-income and homeless families.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin, where it was agreed that the scheme would no longer be limited to the construction of new houses. Eligible applicants will also be able to obtain interest-free loans to repair dilapidated homes and construct new roofs.

The meeting was attended by the Housing Secretary, the President of the Bank of Punjab, and the Director General of PHATA, who were briefed on the programme’s progress.

According to the briefing, 170,000 families have so far received interest-free loans under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme. The government aims to extend the scheme to a further 100,000 families during the next financial year.

The government said the initiative is intended to provide decent housing support to low-income, homeless and deserving families living in temporary or deteriorating homes.

Housing Minister Bilal Yasin said that, on the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, all loans are being provided on a completely interest-free basis through a transparent and straightforward process.

He added that citizens will be able to apply online from home through the programme’s e-portal for loans ranging from PKR 500,000 to PKR 1 million, eliminating the need to visit government offices or wait in long queues.
