Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Junaid Akbar was elected Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Friday.
The position had remained vacant since the government assumed office following the February 2024 general elections.
In the meeting convened to elect the PAC chairman, PML-N Chief Whip Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, along with opposition leaders from the National Assembly and Senate, Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz respectively, proposed Junaid Akbar for the role. The election was conducted once the committee quorum was met.
PTI Chief Whip Aamir Dogar, along with members Riaz Fatyana, Wajiha Qamar, Sardar Yousuf Zaman, and others, raised their hands in support of Junaid Akbar’s nomination, securing his election as the PAC chairman.
It is worth mentioning that the PAC is one of the most influential parliamentary committees, empowered to summon individuals or records from government departments regarding financial matters.
