As PTI protesters gathered at Islamabad’s D-Chowk, intense tear gas shelling erupted as security forces moved into action following a deadlock in negotiations between the government and the opposition.
Footage shared by PTI officials showed dozens of demonstrators assembling near D-Chowk, climbing containers placed as barricades. Army personnel were also seen stationed atop some containers, according to eyewitness accounts.
PTI claimed that three workers were killed and several injured during clashes with police. In a post on X, the party accused law enforcement of firing directly at protesters.
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Chairman of PTI, called on the federal government to cease “firing at innocent people.” He also urged party members to maintain peace in their protest and expressed hope for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Meanwhile, the federal government has deployed the military in the capital under Article 245, as per a notification from the Interior Ministry. The directive empowers the army to maintain order, impose curfews, and take strict measures against unrest.
Security forces have reportedly been authorized to take decisive action, including shooting on sight, to address any acts of lawlessness.
