KARACHI: The leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) have staged a protest outside Sindh Chief Minister’s House in Karachi against the arrest of Opposition Leader in provincial assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh.
PTI’s Karachi Division President Khurram Sher Zaman, Member of National Assembly (MNA) Amir Liaquat Hussain, Jamal Siddiqui, Bilal Ghaffar and other leaders were present in the protest and chanted slogans against Sindh Cheif Minister Murad Ali Shah.
The PTI leaders have said that the arrest of Haleem Adil was unjustified and the masses would not accept his arrest. The arrest of Opposition Leader was a part of a politically motivated campaign, they added.
However, PTI leader and Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi, later on, announced an end to his party’s demonstration in order to devise a further strategy by tomorrow.
Earlier in the day, Haleem Adil Shaikh was arrested for violating the orders of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during PS-88 by-elections. The PTI leader was consistently visiting different polling stations the morning where a by-election is underway.
As the arrest took place, riot police were stationed outside the SSP’s office. Water cannons and additional troops were also ready to deal with any protests. All the police personnel were given anti-riot gear.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has secured an unbeatable lead in Karachi’s PS-88 by-polls after unconfirmed and unverified results from 42 polling stations of the constituency.
According to unconfirmed unofficial results, the results of 42 polling stations of PS-88 have come out. PPP candidate Yousuf Baloch is leading with 19539 votes while PTI candidate John Sher Junejo is in second place with 3305 votes.
