PSL Eliminator: Zalmi knock out defending champions Karachi Kings

ABU DHABI: Defending champions Karachi Kings were knocked out in the First Eliminator of the Pakistan Super League’s sixth edition.

Peshawar Zalmi held their never to defeat Karachi Kings by five wickets. Zalmi will now face Islamabad United in Eliminator 2 on June 22. The winner of the match will qualify for the final, and face off against Multan Sultans.

Peshawar Zalmi won the toss opted to bowl first. In the first innings, Karachi Kings were restricted to 175 runs.

Mohammad Irfan dismissed Sharjeel on the second last ball of the sixth over to take Kings’ first wicket. Umaid Asif quickly removed Martin Guptill in the next over. Irfan removed Danish Aziz to put Karachi three down in 12 overs

Babar Azam play a crucial role for his team and completed his half-century in the 14th over. He was dismissed by Wahab Riaz in the 15th over.

Thisara Parera scored 37 runs before being dismissed by Umaid Asif. Wahab Riaz then dismissed Chadwick Walton. Mohammad Imran removed skipper Imad Wasim from the first ball of the last over

For Zalmi, openers Hazratullah Zazai and Kamran Akmal had taken them to 49 before Noor Ahmed struck. He removed Kamran Akmal for 13 in the fifth over

Zazai completed his half-century from 23 balls in the seventh over.  Peshawar lost their second wicket from the last ball of the 10th over when Thisara Perera dismissed Imam-ul-Haq.

Perera removed the Zazai for 77 runs and slowed down momentum for Zalmi. In the 18th over, Khalid Usman was bowled by Mohammad Ilyas. At that point, Zalmi needed 21 runs in 16 balls.

Mohammad Amir removed Shoaib Malik to give some hope to his team. After the end of Amir’s over, Zalmi needed seven runs in the last six balls to secure a win. West Indies Sherane Rutherford eventually guided his team to the finishing line with one ball to spare.
