KARACHI: The opening ceremony for the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was held on Thursday evening at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Singers Atif Aslam and Aima Baig performing this year’s anthem ‘Agay Dekh’. Prime Minister Imran Khan’s special message to PSL teams was also played during the ceremony, followed by a vibrant fireworks display.
The ceremony will be followed by a match between defending champions Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam will lead the Kings while wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan is the captain for Sultans.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has limited spectators in Karachi to 25 percent only – around 8,000 fans. The PCB has arranged strict bio-secure bubbles for the six franchise sides to avoid delays at any cost.
Karachi Kings are scheduled to take on defending champions Multan Sultans in the first match of the PSL at the National Stadium. Babar Azam will lead the Kings while Multan Sultan are being led by Mohammad Rizwan.
Ahead of the match, Karachi Kings faced a setback as former skipper Imad Wasim and international player Jordan Thompson tested positive for coronavirus. Days ago, Karachi Kings president Wasim Akram had tested positive for COVID-19 too. Mohammad Amir has also been ruled out of the opening match after the pacer suffered an injury
