LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned a reply from the federal government over former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s appeal for his production order on 14th November.
A single bench comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najafi heard the appeal today.
Earlier on Monday, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi filed a petition in the LHC in which he challenged non-issuance of his production order as a member of the National Assembly (NA).
Khaqan Abbasi in the petition appealed that he had written a letter to the NA speaker for ensuring participation of all detained members in the session but no action had been taken.

He argued that the NA speaker had issued production orders of various members but he was ignored, which was a biased act. He pleaded with the court to issue directions for issuance of his production orders as all citizens were equal and no discrimination could be made.
The petition added, “Under the constitution of Pakistan all citizens are equal and cannot be subjected to discrimination and it is a violation of the constitution.”
Abbasi was arrested by NAB while en-route to Thokar Niaz Baig in Lahore on 18th July in a multi-billion-rupee case related to the LNG import contract.
He is accused of being involved in awarding a 15-year contract for an LNG terminal against the rules when Abbasi was petroleum minister in the cabinet of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
