ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi has appreciated the role of Virtual University (VU) in providing cost-effective education.
Addressing a meeting today, the president instructed the management of Virtual University to formulate a five-year plan aimed at increasing the institution’s outreach and international marketing.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Information Technology Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, Secretary to President Tariq Najeeb Najmi, Acting Rector Virtual University Naeem Tariq and faculty members of the university.
Alvi said the varsity could play a greater role in providing education through better utilization of innovative Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.
He said the world had switched over to paperless environment and the educational organizations in Pakistan also required to assume the culture of Innovative Information and Communication Technologies, especially in the pandemic crisis.
The president said the university had been playing a significant role in providing distant education in view of the COVID-19 plague.
The pandemic had opened a huge market for e-learning universities and the management of VU needed to capitalize on emerging opportunities, he added.
Arif Alvi emphasized the university to augment its pace and improve access to higher education by adopting innovative strategies to take Pakistan ahead in the area of education.
The Acting Rector of the University Naeem Tariq briefed the president about the role of VU in the promotion of education in the country. He said the VU provided affordable education to students all over the country through ICTs.
