Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had sent the summary for the appointment to the President after approving Field Marshal Asim Munir as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces.
Field Marshal Asim Munir will hold both positions, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, for a tenure of five years. He will be the first-ever Chief of Defence Forces in Pakistan’s history.
Additionally, the Prime Minister has approved a two-year extension in the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu as Chief of Air Staff. This extension will take effect upon the completion of his current five-year tenure in March 2026.
