PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has finalised the schedule of public gatherings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts ahead of the second phase of local government elections.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto will address four rallies in the province from March 20 onwards including Chitral, Upper Dir, Malakand and other districts.
The first gathering will be held in Chitral on March 20. The second public rally will be held in Upper Dir on March 21, Malakand on March 23, and the fourth public rally will be held in Kuram district on March 25.
The PPP’s statement came ahead of the second phase of KP local government elections and an intense political environment in the country.
It is pertinent to mention here that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) recently served show-cause notices to Prime Minister Imran Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and federal and provincial ministers for violating the code of conduct by holding a public rally in Swat.
The election commision has also barred the prime minister from attending a political rally in KP’s Kurram district, where the premier was scheduled to address a public meeting. District Returning Officer Karam Khushalzada issued notices to PM Imran and Chief Minister Mahmood Khan through the principal.
In an earlier letter, the commission had informed the premier that he as well and public officer-holders could not visit any local council or announce any development scheme after the issuance of the election schedule.
