UMERKOT: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has secured an unbeatable lead in the Umerkot by-polls after unconfirmed and unverified results from 92 polling stations of the constituency.
As per the unconfirmed and unverified results from the 92 polling stations, the PPP candidate has got over 43,000 votes. As many as 12 candidates were participating in the elections today.
The main competition was between Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Syed Ameer Ali Shah and Arbab Ghulam Rahim of Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA). The seat fell vacant after the death of the PPP MPA Syed Ali Mardan Shah.
According to unofficial and unverified results, the PPP candidate Ameer Ali Shah has secured 43,106 votes as compared to Arbab Ghulam Rahim’s 19,939 votes after a count at 92 polling stations in the PS-52 Umerkot constituency.
The votes were cast in the Umerkot by-polls on a total of 128 polling stations as voting continued for the entire day from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The total number of registered voters in the constituency is 154,187 including more than 70,000 are female voters. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalized the arrangements for the by-election on Monday, declaring 50 polling stations to be highly sensitive.
Regarding the election staff, the ECP officials said 128 presiding officers, 432 assistant presiding officers, 432 polling officers, and 1,421 policemen and Rangers’ personnel have been deployed. The government has declared a public holiday in the constituency to facilitate the voters for casting their votes.
At least 1,400 policemen and 400 Rangers personnel had been deployed for security purposes. Rangers personnel had been deployed outside sensitive polling stations. CCTV cameras were installed in all polling stations with strict instructions that no one except a presiding officer can use a mobile phone.
