A polio worker was shot dead in a suspected targeted attack near the Super Highway area of Karachi, police confirmed.
According to SITE Super Highway Industrial Area SHO Wilayat Shah, the victim, 30-year-old Rehmanullah, was riding a motorcycle towards Surjani Town when unidentified assailants opened fire near Jamia-tur-Rasheed.
The officer said the victim sustained multiple bullet wounds and was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
SHO Shah ruled out the possibility of robbery, stating that the victim belonged to the Mehsud tribe and was a resident of Quetta Town near Madras Chowk.
Neighbour and political worker Mohammad Sher told Dawn that Rehmanullah was employed as a polio vaccination worker, adding that his family resides in Vehari, Punjab, where he will be laid to rest.
Sher further said that residents of the area and members of the Mehsud community had planned a protest over the killing but postponed it after senior police officials, including the DSP, assured them of arrests within six days.
