PUNJAB: As many as 44 cases were registered in different areas of Punjab over violation of coronavirus-related standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Sunday.
Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Muhammad Dogar said the cases were registered against shopkeepers and other people for not wearing facemasks despite clear directions of the Punjab government after an alarming increase in the COVID cases.
He said 11 cases were registered in Lahore, nine cases in Chihtian, a city in Punjab’s Bahawalpur district, three in Gujranwala, five in Rahim Yar Khan, 10 in Wah Cantonment and others cases were registered from other cities.
The people were arrested under the Punjab Pandemic Control Act 2020. A large number of people are being seen violating the SOPs in the markets and other public places in Punjab.
Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Muhammad Dogar has warned of stricter action against those who violate the precautionary measures under the provincial government’s zero-tolerance policy.
Meanwhile, Lahore Commissioner Muhammad Usman said those who do not wear masks will be apprehended. “A case will be registered against the offender for not wearing a mask and he can face up to six months in jail,” he announced.
Amid the increasing infections of the novel coronavirus, the Punjab government is considering a complete lockdown, while smart lockdowns have already been implemented in several areas of Lahore.
For the third day in a row, Pakistan reports over 4,000 coronavirus cases. Fifty-seven more people died from the virus while 4,767 more contracted the disease, according to figures obtained from the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
