WAZIRABAD: Police have reached outside of the house of PML-N district president to arrest former Punjab law minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah.
According to sources, the house of PML-N leader Mustansir Hussain Gondal has been cordoned off for the arrest of Rana Sanaullah in Wazirabad.
Sources said police wanted to arrest Rana Sanaullah after two persons were killed and eight others sustained injuries after some unidentified armed men sprayed bullets near polling stations in Daska during NA-75 by-elections.
The dead had been identified as Majid and Zeeshan and belong to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The incident created panic among voters, however, the situation returned to normal after the arrival of police. A clash also erupted between PTI and PML-N workers at the Sohdra polling station in Wazirabad during the PP-51 poll.
It is worth mentioning here the voting process had commenced for by-elections in four constituencies including two vacant seats of the National Assembly (NA) and two seats of the provincial assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is holding by-elections on four vacant seats including NA-45 Kurram, NA-75 Sialkot, PP-51 Gujranwala and PK-63 Nowshera.
The NA-75 constituency in Tehsil Daska, District Sialkot was vacated after the death of PML-N’s MNA Syed Iftikharuddin in August 2020, while Punjab Assembly seats PP-51 Wazirabad fell vacant after the death of PML-N’s Chaudhry Shaukat Manzoor Cheema in June 2020 due to coronavirus.
Nosheen Iftikhar, daughter of late Syed Iftikharuddin, has been given a party ticket in the NA-75 constituency. A tough contest is being expected between her and PTI’s Amjad Malhi. TLP’s Muhammad Khalil Sindhu and the other seven independent candidates are also running for the seat.
PML-N candidate Nosheen Iftikhar is in the lead by a considerable margin in the NA-75 Sialkot by-polls held on Friday, according to unofficial, preliminary results. According to preliminary data obtained by Geo News from 138 polling stations, PML-N is in the lead with 37,952 votes.
PTI candidate Ali Asjad Khan has so far obtained 33,506 votes. By-polls were also held in NA-45 Kurram-I, PP-51 Gujranwala-I and PK-63 Nowshera-III.
