Punjab Police began a major audit of all driving license centers across the province after a corruption scandal surfaced at the Liberty Khidmat Markaz Licensing Center in Lahore.
The police want to expose corrupt officials, stop illegal practices, and bring transparency to the system.
The Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Inspection directed all district officers to conduct thorough checks of their licensing centers. Officers of the Superintendent of Police (SP) rank will lead these special audits. Each team will visit centers, examine operations, and review the conduct of staff.
A 20-point checklist will guide the inspections. It includes points about corruption complaints, agent mafias, and overcharging of applicants.
Teams will focus on illegal fee collection, bribery, and the presence of unauthorized agents inside or near the centers. Moreover, the AIG stressed strict action against anyone found involved in wrongdoing.
Inspectors will also watch video recordings of sign and road tests. They will review the past 30 days of footage to check any suspicious activity. Furthermore, they will go through registers, files, and other official records to confirm the accuracy of transactions.
Each district police officer must complete the audit soon. Reports with findings and recommendations must reach the AIG by November 25. The audit teams will work under the supervision of District Police Officers (DPOs) and police lines.
