KARACHI: Police on the order of authorities have initiated an extensive operation to remove encroachments in the metropolis’ Korangi area.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of DSP Landhi Arif Razzaq. In this regard, DSP Landhi Razzaq while talking to MM News said, “This operation is being carried out under the orders of the Supreme Court”.
He said IGP Sindh had instructed the senior police officers to implement the orders of the Supreme Court and provide sidewalks to the people.
The main road in Korangi No-3 has been illegally occupied by residents and shopkeepers and encroachments were made on the sidewalk about 15 to 20 feet wide, the police official said.
Razzaq said a house was built seven feet above the road and its staircase was also built on the sidewalk, which was demolished earlier.
However, stairs have been installed and are also included in the encroachments up to eight feet on the sidewalk by establishing a private bank branch, he said.
The police have warned the bank management to take it inside immediately; otherwise, it will be uprooted in the future. The sidewalks were also occupied by furniture vendors, veterinarians and other vendors.
Encroachments, it was reported, could still be seen at various spots in the locality, despite the Supreme Court’s orders to the Karachi administration to have them removed.
