ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police claimed to have arrested a key member of an international gang of thieves on Wednesday.
According to police sources, on a tip-off, Islamabad police in a joint operation with law enforcement agencies arrested a key member of the gang in Islamabad.
Sher Hassan Afghani a former record holder and professional criminal involved looted homes in different parts of the city, police said.
More than 1.5 million cash, foreign currency, jewelry, precious watches, perfumes, mobile phones, 36 memory cards, and laptops were recovered from his possession.
During initial interrogation, the accused confessed that he used to sell stolen items in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, police raided Melody Mobiles Shop in Islamabad and arrested three gamblers including Raj Muhammad alias Pappu. Police also recovered cash and gambling tools. Police also registered a case against the gamblers.
Earlier, Islamabad Police had arrested 112 outlaws including 45 absconders during and recovered looted items worth in millions.
A police spokesperson had informed that a police team headed by SP Saddar Sarfaraz Ahmed Virk conducted the operations in different areas of the federal capital.
The spokesperson informed that the police nabbed 17 persons for their alleged involvement in robbery and car lifting cases and recovered looted items including gold ornaments, three vehicles and a motorbike from them.
Almost 11 persons were held for possessing illegal weapons. Moreover, five persons were held after the registration of two cases under the Foreigner Act while three persons were held in violation of the Shop and Security Act.
