KARACHI: Police have arrested at least 291 people in different cities of the province including Karachi for violating the lockdown imposed by the Sindh government.
The police registered has registered 74 more cases against those arrested during a crackdown. 2453 people have so far been detained in the province for violating the lockdown. In Karachi police arrested at least 84 people and registered 26 cases. Five people were arrested in Hyderabad while eleven persons were apprehended in Mirpurkhas.
Meanwhile, in Sukkur at least 51 people were apprehended and 10 cases were registered, while at least 28 violators of lockdown were taken into custody in Benazirabad district and ten cases were registered against them. A further 110 people were arrested in Larkana for violating lockdown and 20 cases were registered against the.
Earlier, the Sindh government had imposed a complete ban on public movement, social and religious gatherings across the province under Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014. In this regard, a notification stated that the violation of the orders will be considered as an offense punishable under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal code.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had ordered Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) and other police officials to ensure that that lockdown is strictly enforced. He called for tightening the restriction on unnecessary movement and warned that curfew might be imposed if the lockdown orders are not taken seriously.
