KARACHI: Police have raided the Metro Highway hookah bar on Karachi’s Super Highway and arrested 10 people on Monday.
According to sources, a heavy contingent of police under the supervision of DSP Sohail Faiz took action on the direction of the Supreme Court.
According to SHO Safdar Mashwani, a large number of drugs and other contraband items were recovered from the Metro Highway hookah bar. Police encountered the hookah bar during the raid, while Usman Arain, owner of Metro bar, fled the scene.
SHO Safdar Mashwani informed the arrested accused and confiscated goods were shifted to Site Super Highway Police Station, where a case is being registered.
However, sources said the arrested youths and the owner were booked under Sections 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
According to police officials, the raid was carried out some time ago due to the violation and immoral activities of Coronavirus SOPs.
Earlier, Assistant Commissioner Gulzari Hijri along police raided a suspected Shisha café located near Super Highway and arrested 35 people including girls.
According to details, the district police were allegedly patronizing the café by taking a huge amount of bribes. It has been revealed that the café was illegally constructed.
Sources informed that the residents had reported several complaints against the café but the district police didn’t take any action. However, the assistant commissioner had sealed the spot.
The step was taken under anti-tobacco laws. The raid team arrested almost 35 people including girls and registered a case against them under Section 262/20, Section 269/279/337 / 188/34. The arrested people will be produced in court after legal proceedings.
