Nehal Hashmi from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was sworn in as the new governor of Sindh on Friday, replacing Kamran Khan Tessori of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P).
The oath was administered by Zafar Ahmed Rajput, Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, during a ceremony held at the Governor House Karachi in Karachi.
Among those present at the ceremony were Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh, and Murtaza Wahab, Mayor of Karachi. Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, the provincial home minister, along with other Sindh ministers and officials, also attended the event.
Bashir Memon, president of PML-N Sindh, was present alongside other party leaders and workers.
Hashmi’s swearing-in came a day after Asif Ali Zardari approved his appointment as governor on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Earlier, the prime minister had sent a summary to the president recommending Hashmi’s appointment as Sindh governor. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif also met Hashmi in Islamabad and congratulated him on his nomination for the post.
Meanwhile, reports said that Tessori had left for Saudi Arabia a day earlier to perform Umrah and is expected to stay there for a few days.
