ISLAMABAD: Political and military personalities have expressed their condolences over the demise of nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan who passed away on Sunday.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Dr AQ Khan. He said Dr Khan was loved by the nation because of his critical contribution in making Pakistan a nuclear weapon state.
“This has provided us security against an aggressive much larger nuclear neighbour. For the people of Pakistan he was a national icon,” he said. The prime minister added that he will be buried in Faisal Mosque “as per his wishes”.

President Dr Arif Alvi expressed his condolences, saying that he had personally known Dr Khan since 1982. “He helped us develop nation-saving nuclear deterrence, and a grateful nation will never forget his services in this regard,” he said.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and all Services Chief expressed their deep grief over the sad passing away of Dr AQ Khan. Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa prayed for the departed soul wishing may Allah grant him highest ranks.
PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari expressed his regret on the demise of Dr AQ Khan. He condoled with the family of the late scientist and prayed for the forgiveness of the soul, saying that his services to the nation were invaluable.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi expressed his deep sorrow over Dr Qadeer’s death. He said Dr AQ Khan was a great man and he was a true patriot who services would be remembered for a long time.
Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson wrote: “Deeply saddened at passing away of national hero Dr AQ Khan. Great loss. Invaluable contributions for Pak. Heartfelt condolences to family members and friends. RIP”

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif said that the nation had lost “a true benefactor who served the motherland with heart and soul.”
“The passing of Dr Khan is a huge loss for the country. His role in making Pakistan an atomic power remains central,” he said.

Defence Minister Pervez Khattak said he was “deeply grieved” over his passing and called it a “great loss”.
“Pakistan will forever honour his services to the nation! The nation is heavily indebted to him for his contributions in enhancing our defence capabilities,” he said.

Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar said that Dr Khan had played an important role in making the country “invincible”. He also offered prayers for the deceased.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain has expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Pakistan’s renowned nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.
In a tweet today, he said the entire nation is saddened over the demise of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, saying his services to Pakistan are countless. He also prayed for the departed soul.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed took to Twitter to post an old picture taken with the nuclear scientist, praying for his forgiveness. “May Allah provide patience to Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s relatives and those who are mourning his passing,” he added.

Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood heaped praise on the nuclear scientist, referring to him as the “pioneer of Pakistan’s nuclear program”.
“Sad to learn of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s death. He was a pioneer of Pakistan’s nuclear program and contributed immensely to our security. May his soul RIP,” he tweeted.
