ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign 2020 in Kahuta district Rawalpindi on Friday.
According to a statement from PM’s Office, all activities related to forestry and wildlife are labour intensive and these two sectors will play a more positive role in providing much needed local livelihood in the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic.
All segments of the society would actively participate in the ‘Plant for Pakistan Day’ which would be celebrated across the country.
Pakistan’s commitment towards the revival of forest cover and wildlife over the last two years had been acknowledged by World Economic Forum, UN-Habitat, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Convention to Combat Desertification, and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Due to the momentum created by the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Program, it was possible to plant or regenerate millions of saplings during 2019-20, which also created thousands of green jobs for daily wagers.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the Interior Ministry to ensure all administrative measures for strict enforcement of the standard operating procedures to contain the spread of coronavirus on the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
Interior Minister Ijaz Ahmed Shah briefed the prime minister about his visits to Lahore and Peshawar and his upcoming tours to Quetta and Karachi to review implementation of SOPs enforced to stem control of the coronavirus.
PM Imran Khan appreciated the steps being taken to prevent spread of COVID-19 pandemic on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
