ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has barred the cabinet members from issuing ‘unnecessary statements’, saying that the ministers have no personal opinions to express publically.
“No minister should issue unnecessary statements. A minister does not have the liberty to express personal opinions,” the Prime Minister said while chairing the federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad today (Monday).
PM Imran took a notice of statements issued by the ministers on multiple issues. During the Cabinet meeting, Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar pointed towards Federal Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari and said, “We have reservations over some statements of yours. You speak the most.”
Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid said that Mazari at times imposes herself on others. In this regard, the Prime Minister warned all ministers from speaking unnecessarily and warned them against issuing statements on sensitive religious matters.
Meanwhile, the premier reiterated his vow for approving strict punishment to culprits involved in sexual assaults and ordered federal cabinet members to expedite legislation process of a draft bill.
PM Imran directed to immediately bring the draft bill in the concerned cabinet committee. He vowed those sex offenders will be given exemplary punishments by the federal government.
The prime minister also expressed his displeasure at the construction of a jail on the Green Zone in Islamabad, saying that the government should protect natural habitats. “I will take action against those who were responsible for the planning and execution of the project,” he added.
PM Imran also directed the chairman of Capital Development Authority (CDA) to hold an investigation in this regard and ordered the attorney general to apprise the Supreme Court (SC) regarding the stance of the federal government.
