LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan held a meeting with Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Moonis Elahi.
The current political situation in the country was discussed during the meeting, the PM Office said. Prime Minister Imran Khan will hold also meetings with members of the Punjab Assembly during his day-long visit to Lahore. He will also address the workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in the provincial capital.
The Punjab Assembly’s session for the election of a new chief minister has been postponed till April 16. The session was scheduled to be held on Wednesday, April 6, but Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari has deferred the session.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is compete with Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz for the post of Punjab chief minister.
The PTI has issued a strict direction to its MPAs for casting their votes in favour of PML-Q leader Pervaiz Elahi for the slot of Punjab’s chief minister and warned Article 63(a) will be applied to deviant lawmakers.
In a notice issued by PTI Secretary General Asad Umar, the party lawmakers have been made bound to cast their votes for Pervaiz Elahi during the upcoming elections to appoint Usman Buzdar’s replacement.
“PTI Chairman Imran Khan has nominated Parvez Elahi as a candidate for the slot of Punjab chief minister, hence, all the MPAs are directed to cast their votes for him” the notice read.
It further said that absence will also be considered as a breach of discipline. Article 63(a) of the constitution will be applied to those MPS who cast their votes against the party police or remain absent from the crucial session. The notice warned references will be filed against defiant lawmakers.
