Pakistan is set to accelerate the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), with the completion of the process anticipated by June, which is four to five months earlier than the previously established deadline of October.
Sources indicate that Prime Minister Shehbaz has instructed the Privatization Commission to hasten the proceedings.
Furthermore, the government aims to enhance PIA’s financial stability prior to the privatization.
In addition, the government intends to resume flight routes to the United States, with security assessments to be conducted in partnership with the US Federal Aviation Authority.
American specialists are expected to arrive in Pakistan in March or April to assist in the reopening of these routes.
Currently, PIA operates 12 Boeing 777 aircraft, of which six are in service. The airline is planning to expand its fleet of wide-body aircraft for European destinations.
Moreover, sources have disclosed that invitations for bids regarding PIA’s privatization are likely to be issued in the upcoming weeks.
Previously, Federal Minister for Privatization, Aleem Khan, attributed the unsuccessful sale of Pakistan International Airlines to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
