KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has barred the captain and the first officer from fasting in the holy month of Ramadan.
A safety alert has been issued in which PIA imposed a ban on fasting by pilots and crew staff while flying planes during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to this safety alert, the captain and first officer have been stopped from observing fast. A notification in this regard said the cabin crew who fast will not be allowed to perform their duty in any flight.
It has been made binding on the fasting cabin crew members to inform the administration in advance about the fasting. “Benefit of fasting is undeniable but performing the duty with fasting can leave an adverse impact on health,” read the safety alert by PAI.
Earlier, the management of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) had issued a set of instructions for its cabin crew and staff members after the disappearance of two flight attendants in Canada.
According to a statement issued by the airline’s flight services, the cabin crew is required to deposit their passports with the station manager after immigration and customs formalities. The passports will be returned passports at the time of check-in on departing flights.
Apart from this, hotel security will be activated to ensure that everyone checks in on arrival and any shortfall will be immediately reported, The hotel staff will ensure every cabin crew member checks in at the hotel and will report immediately if they find anyone missing.
The cabin crew has been further instructed to restrict their movement due to the pandemic and no one will be allowed to stay out of the hotel premises at night.
It had been reported that two flight attendants have slipped away in Canada. A PIA flight steward went missing in Canada soon after the airline’s flight PK-798 landed in Toronto.
