Despite the strike by aircraft engineers, the national airline’s flight operations resumed for the third day.
Three flights from Lahore to Karachi and Quetta were canceled. While a total of 89 flights across the country were delayed in their arrivals and departures.
Delays of up to 13 hours were reported at various airports and on national airline flights. 26 flights at Islamabad Airport were delayed by 1 to 12 hours.
25 flights from Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Peshawar, and Skardu airports were delayed.
27 flights from Lahore Airport were reported to be delayed by 1 to 13 hours. 11 flights from Karachi Airport were reported to be delayed by up to 11.5 hours.
The primary cause was the engineers’ refusal to issue aircraft clearance certificates for all flights, citing a lack of airworthiness due to a shortage of spare parts and poor working conditions.
They are demanding salary increases and improved working conditions.
PIA management has called the engineers’ actions a “strike” and has initiated legal action, including dismissing two senior SAEP officials.
The airline states operations have been partially restored using alternate arrangements, but disruptions continue
