A shortage of petrol may affect the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad amid the ongoing PTI protest, which has been marked by violent incidents causing casualties.
According to a report by Pak Observer on Tuesday, petrol and other petroleum products may run short in the twin cities due to road blockages and the PTI protest, which is worsening the law and order situation in the federal capital.
The report also suggests that the petrol shortage may extend to Lahore, prompting the Ministry of Petroleum to issue an urgent letter to the Punjab Chief Secretary, urging immediate action to address the petroleum shortage in the affected cities.
The Ministry’s letter emphasized that the Punjab government must take prompt measures to ensure the supply of crude oil from the Attock Oil Refinery, as both the supply of crude oil to the refinery and the distribution of petroleum products from the facility have already been disrupted.
Authorities fear that if the issue is not resolved quickly, a shortage of petroleum products could arise. The letter also highlighted that road closures have halted the supply of petroleum products to Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.
Meanwhile, fuel tankers remain stranded on various highways due to the blockades, exacerbating the situation. The Ministry has urged the development of a comprehensive plan to resolve the issue and ensure the uninterrupted supply of petroleum products to the public.
