Petroleum products are expected to become more expensive from March 1 for the next fortnight, according to local media reports.
Reports said the price of petrol may increase by Rs4.58 per liter, while high-speed diesel (HSD) is likely to go up by Rs4.73 per liter. Kerosene oil is also expected to see a hike of Rs6.88 per liter, and light diesel oil may rise by Rs5 per liter.
The anticipated revision comes just weeks after the government raised fuel prices on February 15. At that time, petrol was increased by Rs5 per liter and high-speed diesel by Rs7.32 per liter, citing fluctuations in international market prices.
In a late-night notification, the Petroleum Division had said the adjustment was made following recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and changes in global oil rates.
Currently, the ex-depot price of high-speed diesel stands at Rs275.70 per liter, up from Rs268.38. HSD is widely used in heavy transport, agriculture and railways, and any increase is generally seen as inflationary.
