Peshawar Zalmi falls short of mammoth Qalandars total
KARACHI: Peshawar Zalmi fell short after being handed a 200-run target by the Lahore Qalandars during the ninth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 at the National Stadium Karachi.
Lahore Qalandars set a 200-run target for Peshawar Zalmi after the latter opted to bowl first against the Shaheen Shah Afridi-led side. Qalandars won by 29 runs after Zalmi only managed to score 170 runs in the stipulated 20 overs.
Abdullah Shafique and Fakhar Zaman had a brilliant opening partnership of 94 runs for Qalandars. Shafique scored 41 runs from 31 balls including two 6s. Fakhar Zaman was once again the highest scorer for Qalandars after scoring 66 runs from 38 balls including three 6s and six boundaries.
Kamran Rasool (30 runs) and Mohammad Hafeez (37 runs) also helped Qalandars pile up runs. Rashid scored also scored 22 runs and remains unbeaten. Qalandars scored 199 runs at the loss of just four wickets.
In response, Zalmi failed to reach the mammoth total. Hazratullah Zazai, who recovered from COVID-19 and joined the team, secured to score and was quickly dismissed by Shaheen.
Kamran Akmal and Hussain Talat took control. Akmal scored 41 runs from 24 balls including two 6s and four boundaries. Talat scored 15 runs before being caught by Fakhar Zaman off a brilliant delivery by Zaman Khan.
Haider Ali was the highest scorer for Zalmi but fell one run of a half-century. He scored 49 runs from 34 balls including three 6s. Shoaib Malik failed to impress and was dismissed for 7 runs by Rashid Khan.
