The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority (KPUMA) has announced a fare adjustment for the express routes of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, Zu Peshawar.
A TransPeshawar spokesperson said that the increase in fares is intended to enhance convenience for long-distance passengers by encouraging short-distance commuters to use more suitable routes. Unlike direct routes, express buses only stop at select high-traffic stations rather than at every stop.
Express routes ER-09 (from Gulbahar Chowk to Phase 6 Terminal), ER-10 (from Hospital Chowk to Kohat Adda), ER-12 (from Hayatabad Mall to Shah Alam), and ER-16 (from Gulbahar Chowk to Nawab Market) are among those that are impacted. On October 3, 2024, the new fare structure will go into force.
“The express routes of Zu Peshawar are designed to facilitate long-distance commuters, with direct routes serving alongside them,” Sadaf Kamil, spokesperson for TransPeshawar, said, “However, many short-distance passengers (travelling 2-3 stops) are also using these express routes, reducing capacity for long-distance travellers. To address this issue, the fare for express routes has been increased. This change will have minimal impact on long-distance commuters, while encouraging short-distance passengers to opt for alternative routes.”
