ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to keep Pakistan’s border with Iran, Afghanistan and China closed for another two weeks as a precautionary measure to halt the outbreak of coronavirus.
The decision came at a meeting of the National Coordination Committee held in Islamabad today (Friday). The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
After the meeting, Special Assistant to PM on National Security Moeed Yousuf took to Twitter and said, “In the NCC for COVID-19 meeting, we have decided to keep Pakistan’s western [border with Iran and Afghanistan] and Indian borders completely closed for another 2 weeks.”
In this regard, concerned authorities said that the meeting took an overview of the situation arising out of novel coronavirus and measures to cope with it.
The participants of the meeting gave a practical demonstration of the precautionary measures to avoid coronavirus by observing social distance in their seating arrangement.
Earlier on March 13, Pakistan closed its western borders with Iran and Afghanistan in order to contain the outbreak of novel coronavirus.
Later on March 20, PM Imran announced the opening of the Chaman-Spin Boldak border to Afghanistan for trucks to crossover to the other side.
