Pakistan’s salt exports to China witnessed a substantial 40% surge in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, signaling deepening trade collaboration between the two nations under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
According to Ghulam Qadir, Trade and Investment Counsellor at Pakistan’s Embassy in Beijing, exports between January and March 2025 exceeded 13.64 million kilograms, generating revenue of $1.83 million. In the corresponding period of 2024, salt exports stood at $1.30 million.
Pakistan currently supplies salt to China in three distinct categories: edible salt, pure sodium chloride, and other varieties of industrial salt.
Industry analysts attribute this growth to several key factors, including improved logistics infrastructure, competitive pricing, and upgraded quality standards embraced by Pakistani exporters.
The increase in exports is also fueled by China’s growing industrial demand, particularly in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food processing sectors.
