Pakistan’s evolutionary journey towards peace is impressive: UN Secretary-General

NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said Pakistan’s evolutionary journey towards peace is impressive while its achievements against terrorism are excellent.

In a statement issued by the UN Secretary General on Monday, Guterres said Pakistan Army had carried on with the operations against terrorist despite the entire country facing huge challneges such as the coronavirus pandemic.

The UN Secretary General said, “Kartarpur Corridor is a practical proof of Pakistan’s desire for peace and interfaith harmony.” He further said that the borders of many countries in the world are still closed however, Pakistan has opened its borders and the people have opened their hearts and homes.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by US Senator Lindsey Olin Graham said, “I am deeply impressed with the Pakistan Army and the people of this region.” The Pakistan Army is working hard to improve the situation in the region, Lindsey Olin added.

US Senator Lindsey Olin Graham said that Pakistan Army and the people of the region had eradicated terrorism and these achievements could not be forgotten.

US Senator Sheldon also praised Pakistan s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, saying “I never thought I would be able to go to a peaceful South Waziristan.” Congratulations to the Pakistan Army on this achievement.

General Sir Nicholas Carter said that he had heard a lot about the efforts and achievements of the Pakistan Army in the region. Clearing and holding Waziristan from terrorism is a great achievement of the Pakistan Army.

It is worth mentioning here operation Radul Fasaad has completed four years and to share its successes DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar addressed a press conference in Islamabad on Monday.

Iftikhar pointed out that operation Radul Fasaad was launched with a two-point strategy to counter terrorism and violent extremism.

An ideology can only be countered by a superior ideology—a superior argument, he remarked. The spokesman said Pakistan’s grand strategy in its war against terrorism was based on four concepts: Clear, hold, build and transfer.

The main objective of the counter-terrorism plan was that he said, adding that the use of power is the privilege of the state only; stability on the western zone through an effective border management system; and ending terrorists’ support base across the country.

He said that during 2010 to 2017, military  worked on the ‘clear and old phase’ which was regaining control of land from terrorists and restoring the writ of the state in merged districts.

The DG ISPR said in the past four years, more than 375,000 intelligence-based operations (IBO) were carried out under Raddul Fasaad in which the CTD, IB, ISI, MI, police, FC and Rangers all played a role.

Of these, more than 34,000 IBOs were carried out in Punjab; over 150,000 in Sindh, more than 80,000 in Balochistan and in KP, more than 92,000, he elaborated.

The military’s spokesperson said, “Operation Radd ul Fasaad did not stop, fencing, IBOs and clearance of areas which had not been cleared previously, went on.”
