Pakistan’s current account, which had remained in surplus for the past three consecutive months, has slipped back into deficit. During April, the current account recorded a deficit exceeding 324 million US dollars.
According to details, the State Bank of Pakistan released the latest current account statistics. In April 2026, the country’s current account posted a deficit of 324 million dollars, marking the first time during the current fiscal year that the account failed to remain in surplus.
Previously, Pakistan’s current account recorded a surplus of 70 million dollars in January and 230 million dollars in February.
Officials stated that this was the first occasion this year in which the current account moved into deficit rather than remaining in surplus. In March, the current account had also posted a surplus of 1.13 billion dollars.
Economic experts believe that weak economic policies contributed to the current account deficit, citing factors such as rising imports, declining exports and other economic pressures.
