The Curfew, a Pakistani short film written and directed by Shehrezad Maher, is set to make its world premiere at the Venice Biennale tomorrow (September 4), marking the only Pakistani selection at the prestigious festival this year.
Running 19 minutes, The Curfew stars Sathya Sridharan, Balinder Johal, Sara Haider, Rajesh Bose, Chris Thorn, and Salwa Khan.
The film tells the story of Ayaan, a young man who becomes a temporary caregiver for his grandmother. Their relationship is tested as they struggle to communicate across a language barrier, creating a quiet tension that reveals deeper layers of identity and memory. Amid the silence, echoes of a colonial past begin to shape how Ayaan views both strangers and himself.
