Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced her intention to collaborate with India to address the pressing issue of smog.

During a Diwali celebration in Lahore, she highlighted the importance of diplomatic efforts, asserting that both Indian and Pakistani Punjab must work together to find effective solutions.

In her address, Chief Minister Nawaz emphasized unity among all citizens, stating, “Without distinction, we are all Pakistanis.” She congratulated the Hindu community on Diwali and reaffirmed her commitment to protecting minority rights, calling minorities a source of national pride.

Maryam Nawaz indicated plans to introduce a minority card, which will provide deserving individuals with 10,500 rupees. Additionally, she announced that 1,400 families would receive 15,000 rupees each as a holiday bonus for Diwali. She reiterated the government’s focus on doubling funds allocated for minority welfare.

Addressing the smog issue, she stated that it is a humanitarian concern rather than a political one. Maryam Nawaz is contemplating writing to the Chief Minister of Indian Punjab to foster cooperation on this matter.

The air quality in Lahore has reached alarming levels, with the city becoming the world’s most polluted on Sunday, recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 707. According to IQAir.com, an AQI above 301 is considered hazardous, highlighting the severity of the situation.

In related developments, the Lahore High Court has issued a written order regarding a new petition aimed at tackling smog. The court has requested responses from the Environment Department and other involved parties.
