ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Monday expressed the resolve of his government to root out extremism, saying that Pakistani security agencies were ready to thwart any possible terrorist attempt.
He made these remarks while talking to journalists at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) after inquiring about the health of two policemen who sustained bullet injuries when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on them.
The federal minister pointed out that Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was being reorganized from Afghanistan to launch terrorist activities in Pakistan. “There are security threats in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Karachi, but Pakistani security agencies are on high alert,” he added.
He appreciated the role of law enforcement agencies for sacrificing their lives to ensure the safety of masses. The interior minister also announced a compensation of Rs27.5 million for the heirs of the martyred cops.
Referring to the four terrorists killed in Waziristan yesterday, he added that the police and armed forces have been battling terrorism. “These measures will help restore peace,” he maintained.
Meanwhile, Minister for Industries and Planning Asad Umar also reached PIMS and inquired after the health of the injured police personnel. “Police are probing the incident from different angles and those responsible will be taken to task soon,” he said.
