Pakistani film “Ghost School”, directed by Seemab Gul, has been officially selected for screening at the Red Sea International Film Festival 2025. The festival is set to take place in Jeddah from December 4 to 13.
Notably, Pakistan is becoming part of the Red Sea Film Festival for the first time, thanks to the efforts of Nosheen Waseem.
The inclusion of Ghost School is considered a significant milestone for Pakistani cinema and a testament to its growing recognition on the global film stage.
Ghost School tells the story of a young girl raised in a rural setting whose school is suddenly and mysteriously shut down. Whispers of supernatural activity spread across the village, and in her quest for the truth, the girl embarks on a journey that uncovers deep-rooted issues such as superstition, lack of education, and the struggles of rural society.
The film has already garnered international attention following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. At the Red Sea Festival, it has been placed in the “Families & Children” category and will be screened on December 11 at 3:00 PM at Jeddah’s Culture Square.
This selection not only validates the quality of Pakistani filmmaking but also signals a growing global appetite for socially meaningful stories. Ghost School stands out as a remarkable example in this regard.
Film circles and the cinema industry have warmly welcomed this development. Seemab Gul’s direction, the film’s compelling narrative, and its social depth have impressed both critics and audiences. For these reasons, Ghost School is being hailed as one of the most important South Asian films to be showcased at this year’s festival.
