The International Cricket Council (ICC) has awarded Pakistan the hosting rights for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2028, with India matches to be played at a neutral venue.
The qualification pathway for the tournament has also been confirmed. Ten teams will qualify automatically, including the top eight sides from the 2026 edition, the host nation if not already qualified, and additional teams based on ICC Women’s T20I rankings as of 6 July 2026.
The remaining two spots will be decided through a 10-team Global Qualifier, supported by regional qualification events, with final allocations to be confirmed in upcoming ICC meetings.
The ICC also confirmed scheduling changes for upcoming women’s events. The ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 will now take place from 14 to 28 February 2027, moved forward from its original June–July window.
Meanwhile, the Board approved the format for the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy 2026, a new 10-team pilot competition featuring five Full Members and five Associate Members. Qualification will be based on ICC rankings and previous Women’s T20 World Cup qualification performance.
Moreover, the ICC has also approved a change to playing conditions, extending the innings break in T20 internationals to 15 minutes.
