Pakistan will export 125,000 tonnes of mangoes this season, according to the Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Association (PFVA), which has announced the export target.
PFVA Chairman Waheed Ahmed stated that mango exports will commence on May 25, and are expected to generate foreign exchange earnings of $100 million.
This season, mango production is expected to reach 1.44 million tonnes. Pakistan also anticipates gaining access to a new market in South Africa, as a delegation of South African quarantine experts is scheduled to visit the country this season.
Special focus will also be placed on the Chinese annd Turkish markets, while efforts will continue to strengthen trade relationships with Japan, Australia, the United States, and South Korea.
The PFVA has urged the government to take notice of the unjustified additional freight charges being levied by shipping companies.
