At the World Defense Show 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan’s Global Industrial and Defense Solutions (GIDS) unveiled the SMASH hypersonic anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM).
The missile is designed to target naval vessels at sea and can also be employed against land-based targets, showcasing Pakistan’s growing capabilities in advanced missile technology.
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan had successfully tested a new SMASH anti-ship ballistic missile in November 2025.
The indigenous anti-ship missile is a major advancement in its naval defense capabilities. The missile, capable of reaching speeds up to Mach 8, is designed to strike both surface ships and land targets within a 350 km range.
Although full technical details have not been disclosed, the SMASH missile is reported to feature a solid-fuel engine, satellite-aided inertial navigation, and an unspecified terminal guidance system, likely employing either radar or optoelectronic technology.
It is designed for launch from naval vessels, specifically Zulfiquar-class (F-22P) frigates. It can also be launched from a Transport Erector Launcher (TEL).
The missile is designed to penetrate modern naval defenses, providing an asymmetric, cost-effective, and highly effective deterrent against naval adversaries.
