Federal Minister for Energy Owais Leghari has announced that Russia and Pakistan will launch a trial freight train service next year in March, fostering mutual relations between both countries.
According to a report by Samaa News on Thursday, speaking on how to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, the Federal Minister emphasized that Pakistan’s engagement with Russia is driven by national interests, not being influenced by external pressures in any way.
“Our relationship with Russia is for Pakistan’s benefit, not on anyone’s dictation,” Owais Leghari stated while dismissing the notion of viewing Pakistan-Russia ties through the lens of East-West dynamics. He stressed that Pakistan is open to working with all partners for the sake of mutual benefit.
“Russia and China are both actively supporting Pakistan in various sectors, further bolstering the country’s development goals,” Owais Leghari added.
Pakistan and Russia are expected to start the trial freight train service to pave the way for enhanced connectivity, trade, and opportunities between both of countries, marking a new chapter in their mutual relationship, as reported by national media.
