ISLAMABAD: The number of coronavirus cases are steadily rising as the nation registered 799 new cases in the past 24 hours.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported five more coronavirus-related fatalities in the past day, lifting the death toll to 6,437.
The total number of cases has now reached 308,217 since the virus first emerged earlier this year. A further 42,299 samples were tested for the infection during the past days, out of which 799 turned out to be positive.
A further 476 more people recovered over the last 24 hours. 294,932 patients have recuperated so far as active Covid-19 cases stand at 7,388. More than 3.3 million tests have been conducted across the country.
Sindh has the highest number of cases with 134,845, while Punjab has recorded 98,686 cases. There have been 37,470 recorded cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 14,765 cases in Balochistan, 16,288 cases in Islamabad, while Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan have 2,591 and 3,572 cases respectively.

According to a tally by Johns Hopkins University, 200,005 Americans have died and 6.86 million have been confirmed infected by the novel coronavirus. The US has had the world’s highest official death toll for months, ahead of Brazil and India, with 137,272 and 88,935 deaths respectively.
