Pakistan has urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to immediately enforce an unconditional ceasefire to end the ongoing bloodshed and destruction in Gaza.
According to a report by ARY News on Saturday, Asim Iftikhar, Pakistan’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasized the need for a halt to violence in Gaza during his address to the UNSC session on the Middle East, particularly Palestine.
He appealed to the global community to unite in upholding the UN Charter and international law, calling for decisive action to ensure universal respect for these principles.
Iftikhar urged the UNSC to establish safe humanitarian corridors, allowing access to critical care and facilitating reconstruction efforts, particularly for Gaza’s devastated healthcare infrastructure.
He reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding demand for granting full UN membership to Palestine, describing it as a moral obligation and a necessary step to solidify the Two-State solution.
On Thursday, Pakistan marked the start of its eighth term as a non-permanent member of the UNSC (2025-26) by raising its national flag at the Security Council chamber. Flags of four other incoming non-permanent members — Denmark, Greece, Panama, and Somalia — were also installed during the ceremony at the UN Headquarters in New York.
