ISLAMABAD: Pakistan recorded 4,723 new coronavirus cases across the country while 84 people succumbed to the deadly disease in the past day.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the total number of cases recorded so far reached 682,888 cases while the death toll has reached 14,697.
The total number of active cases has increased to 58,500 and the positivity rate stood at 9.41 percent. There are 3,490 patients who remain in critical condition in hospitals across the country.
There were 50,186 coronavirus detection tests conducted in the past day, taking the total number of COVID-19 tests to 10.347 million since the first case was reported. Overall 609,691 people have recovered from the virus.
Punjab has highest amount of active cases with 29,381. There have been 228,356 cases recorded so far and 6,523 deaths. Islamabad has recorded 60,197 cases and 574 deaths while there are 11,142 active cases in the region. The province and the federal capital has been the worst affected from the third wave of the pandemic.
The province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 90,262 cases and 2,417 deaths while there are 10,679 active cases. Sindh has recorded 266,173 cases and 4,506 deaths.
The NCOC had expressed satisfaction over the procurement process of coronavirus vaccines and its subsequent rollout process to federating units.
In the session headed by Chairman NCOC Asad Umar and co-chaired by Chief Coordinator Lt General Hamood Uz Zaman Khan, the forum asked the provinces to pursue vaccination targets vigorously. The forum was informed that one million Sinopharm vaccines purchased by Pakistan have been received and distributed among all federating units.
The forum expressed concerns over the non-implementation of NCOC instructions on adherence to SOPs on wearing of masks, social distancing and commercial timings.
It was also decided that senior citizens over 65 years can walk into designated vaccination centres for administering doses through on-spot registration facility.
