Pakistan Navy’s new Hangor-class submarine arrives in Karachi

The Pakistan Navy’s first China-built Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M Hangor, has arrived in Karachi after completing its maiden voyage from China, marking a significant milestone in the country’s naval modernization program.

The submarine had earlier been formally commissioned on April 30, 2026, in a ceremony held in Sanya, China. Following its commissioning, it began its journey to Pakistan and was tracked transiting through regional waters before reaching its home port in Karachi.

The arrival of PNS/M Hangor is being viewed as a major addition to Pakistan’s maritime defence capabilities, symbolising enhanced naval strength, strategic deterrence and growing technological self-reliance in modern warfare systems.

These are diesel-electric attack submarines (SSK) equipped with advanced Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology, allowing them to remain submerged significantly longer than conventional diesel vessels.

The Hangor-class program is a key component of Pakistan’s naval expansion plan, valued at approximately $5 billion, aimed at inducting eight advanced submarines into the fleet.

Pakistan successfully test-fires ‘Fatah-4’ ground-launched cruise missile

Pakistan on Thursday successfully test-fired the indigenously developed “Fatah-4” ground-launched cruise missile, marking a major advancement in the country’s conventional precision-strike capabilities. The missile, officially unveiled by the Pakistan Army in August 2025, has a reported range of 750 kilometers and is designed to carry out deep-strike operations with high accuracy.
